Tragic Accident Claims Young Life in Ilorin
The Kwara State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of a 12-year-old girl's body from a domestic well in Ilorin, the state capital, in a heartbreaking incident that occurred on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Nabilat from Busari Alao street in Ikoyi community, Irewolede area, was performing the routine task of fetching water when tragedy struck around 10:35 AM on November 15, 2025.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
According to official reports from the fire service, the young girl was drawing water from the well when one of her legs suddenly slipped off the ground. This loss of footing caused her to tumble directly into the deep domestic well, leading to the fatal accident.
The emergency response was initiated when one Mr. Mayowa, a resident of the neighborhood, placed an urgent telephone call to summon the fire brigade. Fire service personnel responded promptly to the distress call and rushed to the scene at the Ilorin West Local Government Area location.
Firefighters worked diligently to recover the victim from the well, but despite their efforts, Nabilat was pronounced dead upon recovery. The tragic outcome highlights the dangers associated with domestic wells, particularly when children are involved in water fetching activities.

The spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, formally confirmed the incident through an official statement. Following the recovery operation, fire service personnel handed over the deceased's body to family members.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, expressed profound sadness over the preventable tragedy. He used the opportunity to issue an important public safety advisory, urging community members to exercise extreme caution in their daily activities.
