180 Nigerian Returnees Arrive from Libya via NEMA

Vulnerable Nigerians Safely Return from Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has successfully received 180 vulnerable Nigerian citizens who were stranded in Libya. The coordinated return operation took place on November 11, 2025, marking another chapter in Nigeria's ongoing efforts to repatriate citizens from crisis-affected regions.

Arrival Details and Passenger Composition

The returnees arrived at approximately 7:00 PM local time at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. They traveled aboard an Air Libya flight with registration number 5A-BAE. The group consisted of diverse individuals with varying needs and circumstances.

The breakdown of passengers revealed 147 adults (45 males and 102 females), 19 children (6 males and 13 females), and 14 infants (7 males and 7 females). Alarmingly, 46 returnees were identified with medical conditions requiring immediate attention from health officials upon arrival.

Multi-Agency Collaboration and Support Services

This humanitarian operation featured collaboration between several key organizations working in unison. NEMA's Lagos Operations Office worked alongside the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Port Health Services.

Officers from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation processes to ensure accurate profiling of all returnees. This crucial step facilitates smoother reintegration into Nigerian society and helps track the individuals' progress.

Comprehensive Humanitarian Assistance Provided

In line with the Federal Government's commitment to ensuring safe and dignified returns, the returnees received immediate support including:

  • Food and potable water
  • Medical care and ambulance services
  • Luggage handling and logistics support
  • Professional counselling services

The seamless coordination between NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and other partners demonstrated the government's sustained efforts to protect the welfare and dignity of Nigerians returning from abroad. This operation reflects Nigeria's dedication to its citizens regardless of their location or circumstances.
