A heartbreaking series of accidents across three local government areas in Kano State has resulted in the death of five individuals, including two children. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the separate incidents, which involved a fatal well collapse, a deadly fall, and a destructive house fire.
Triple Fatality in Bichi Well Collapse
The first and most devastating incident took place in Badume Kanawa Village, Bichi Local Government Area. Three men lost their lives while attempting to re-dig a well. According to the Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, the tragedy began when the rope supporting 65-year-old Sa'idu Gada snapped while he was working inside the well.
In a desperate bid to save his father, 20-year-old Sani Isyaku entered the well but also became trapped. A third man, 60-year-old Yakubu Abdullahi, then went in hoping to rescue both, but he too could not escape. Fire Service personnel managed to pull all three men out, but they were already unconscious and were later pronounced dead.
Their bodies were handed over to DSP Kabiru Iliyasu of the Badume Police Division.
Separate Tragedies Claim Young Lives
In a second, unrelated incident within Danbatta Local Government Area, a young boy met a tragic end. 10-year-old Hassan Iliyasu Haruna fell into a well and died before emergency responders could reach him.
The third tragedy struck in Badawa Layin Day, Nassarawa Local Government Area. There, a house fire on Thursday, December 4, 2025, claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl. The fire, which engulfed part of a residential building and destroyed two bedrooms, left the girl unconscious upon rescue. She was later confirmed dead.
Fire Service Issues Critical Safety Warning
Reacting to these preventable deaths, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, issued a strong public advisory. He specifically warned residents against entering wells during emergencies, noting that such impulsive actions often lead to more casualties instead of successful rescues.
He stressed that the public should immediately contact professional emergency responders in the event of any accident. Director Anas emphasized that trained personnel have the proper equipment and expertise to handle dangerous situations safely, which the general public lacks.
These incidents, all confirmed in a statement on Saturday, December 6, 2025, have cast a pall over the affected communities and serve as a grim reminder of the importance of safety protocols and relying on professional help during crises.
