Police Bust Major Sex Trafficking Operation in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a dangerous sex trafficking syndicate that was exploiting young women across Nigeria. In a major breakthrough, law enforcement officers rescued 15 young girls who had been trapped in the criminal operation.

How the Trafficking Syndicate Operated

According to police investigations, the syndicate used deceptive tactics to lure victims from different parts of the country. The traffickers promised legitimate employment opportunities including domestic work, ushering services, and overseas employment to unsuspecting young women.

The mastermind behind the operation has been identified as Jayeola Joshua from Alagbaka, Akure. He operated with two accomplices who helped coordinate the criminal activities. When the victims arrived in Akure, they were immediately confined in an apartment that served as the group's operational base.

The Disturbing Exploitation Methods

Police sources revealed that the victims, aged between 20 and 26 years, were forced into sending explicit images and videos to clients seeking sexual services. The operation was cleverly disguised as "relationship content" on social media platforms, hiding its criminal nature from casual observers.

The young women were coerced and manipulated into participating in these activities against their will. The traffickers maintained tight control over their movements and communications, effectively holding them captive.

Police Response and Victim Support

The operation began when police received intelligence reports about the syndicate's activities. The Command's SWAT Unit conducted a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of the three suspects.

Confirming the development, the police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka stated that all rescued victims have been moved to the Police Hospital in Akure. They are receiving comprehensive care including:

  • Medical treatment and evaluation
  • Psychological counseling services
  • Professional support for trauma recovery

The case has been transferred to the Command's Gender Desk for further investigation and to coordinate the reintegration of the victims back into society. This specialized unit will ensure proper follow-up and support for the young women as they recover from their ordeal.

The successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian law enforcement to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable citizens from exploitation.
