Victim Identified as Sewuese
A young Nigerian girl trafficked to Cotonou in the Benin Republic for prostitution has died. The victim, identified as Sewuese, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, in Benue State after being brought home in poor health.
Activist Calls for Justice
Zege Orkwande, an activist who has been facilitating the rescue of trafficked Benue girls, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. “People are asking 'who took Sewuese to Cotonou'. Trust my process,” Orkwande wrote. “The people that trafficked/smuggled her to Cotonou for prostitution will sure face the law and serve in prison uniform. All information gathered. I'm waiting for her to be buried first. REST WELL.”

Orkwande indicated that he is gathering evidence and will pursue legal action against those responsible. The activist’s work focuses on rescuing victims from sex trafficking rings that transport young women from Benue State to neighboring countries, particularly Benin Republic. This case highlights the persistent problem of human trafficking affecting Nigerian youth, with many lured by false promises of employment or education only to be forced into prostitution.
