Child Trafficking Ring Busted: 2-Year-Old Rescued After Being Sold Multiple Times

The Niger State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a disturbing child trafficking case, recovering a stolen two-year-old girl who had been sold to multiple buyers, including an Abuja-based pastor, for a total of N6.6 million.

According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the victim, identified as Rahamat Mohammed, was originally stolen from Sabon-Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State on October 2, 2025.

Trafficking Chain Revealed

The investigation revealed a sophisticated trafficking network that moved the child through multiple handlers. The prime suspect, Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, who had previously been arrested on November 5, 2025, with three other stolen children, confessed to taking Rahamat and selling her to a woman named Rosemary in Nyanya, Abuja.

Rosemary then escalated the crime by selling the innocent child to Pastor Vincent Emmanuel of Asosi, Abuja, for the substantial sum of N2.8 million. The pastor, rather than rescuing the child, saw an opportunity for profit and sold her again to Anthonia Nwabufor, a London-based woman, for N3.8 million.

Police investigations uncovered that Nwabufor was making active arrangements to transport the child to London, having directed that Rahamat be delivered to her mother in Asaba, Delta State, who would facilitate the international movement.

Police Operation and Recovery

Following crucial confessions from Chukwumezie, police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna traveled to Asaba, Delta State, on November 24, 2025, where they successfully recovered Rahamat.

SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that eight suspects have been arrested in connection with this trafficking operation, and a total of six children have been recovered so far as the investigation continues to unfold.

The case highlights the persistent threat of child trafficking in Nigeria and the sophisticated networks that profit from the trade of innocent children. The Niger State Police Command has assured the public that they are committed to dismantling these criminal operations completely.
