President Tinubu Takes Action Following Kebbi School Attack
President Bola Tinubu has issued immediate directives to security agencies to rescue 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, located in the Danko-Wasagu area of Kebbi State. The President's order comes after gunmen stormed the school in the early hours of Monday, resulting in tragic casualties.
Deadly Attack Claims Vice Principal's Life
The armed assailants carried out their assault with brutal efficiency, killing the school's Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku. A security guard, Ali Shehu, sustained serious gunshot wounds to his right hand during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Kebbi State Police spokesperson Nafi'u Kotarkoshi confirmed the incident, stating that a comprehensive manhunt for the attackers is already underway. Security forces have been mobilized to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe return of the abducted students.
Government's Strong Response and Security Measures
In a statement released by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, President Tinubu strongly condemned what he described as a "reprehensible attack on innocent students" and the killing of school officials performing their noble duties.
The President reaffirmed his administration's fundamental commitment to protecting all Nigerians, with special emphasis on the safety of schoolchildren. "Protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State," President Tinubu declared through the ministerial statement.
Beyond the immediate rescue operation, Nigeria is enhancing its security cooperation through regional organizations including ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). This coordinated approach aims to strengthen border security and systematically dismantle terrorist and criminal networks operating across the region.
The Minister of Information urged the public to remain calm and confident while security forces work tirelessly to resolve this critical situation. Security agencies have been given clear instructions not only to locate and safely recover the abducted students but also to ensure that all perpetrators face justice for their crimes.
