A woman who was abducted in Kaduna State has reportedly died while in the custody of bandits. Naomi Makau was kidnapped last year in the Kauru Local Government Area of the state, according to sources.
The kidnappers repeatedly contacted her parents, demanding a ransom for her release. However, due to financial difficulties, her parents were unable to pay the demanded amount.
Reports indicate that the bandits allegedly forced her to cook for them at their camp and threatened to marry her off to one of them against her will. The family received the devastating news that she passed away while still in captivity on June 5, 2026.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing insecurity in Kaduna State, where banditry and kidnapping for ransom remain serious concerns. The inability of families to meet ransom demands often leads to prolonged captivity or, as in this case, loss of life.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but the community is mourning the loss of Naomi Makau. The incident underscores the need for more effective measures to combat banditry and ensure the safety of citizens in the region.
