Suspected armed bandits have unleashed terror on a Federal Capital Territory community, kidnapping seven young persons during what should have been a solemn funeral gathering.
Night of Terror in Gidan-Bijimi
In a brazen attack that has left residents in shock, armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles stormed the Gidan-Bijimi community in Kawu ward of Bwari Area Council. The incident occurred around 9:47 pm on Wednesday when the criminals targeted two separate houses within the community.
The attackers successfully abducted six young girls aged between 17 and 23 years alongside a 16-year-old boy. According to local reports, the victims had gathered in the community to attend a funeral ceremony when the bandits struck.
Community Living in Fear
The location of the attack raises significant security concerns as Gidan-Bijimi community shares boundaries with Marke village near the Kaduna state border. This geographical positioning has often made such border communities vulnerable to attacks from criminal elements operating across state lines.
Local residents expressed deep concern about the deteriorating security situation in areas previously considered safe within the Federal Capital Territory. The fact that the bandits could operate so freely in the evening hours has particularly alarmed community members.
Growing Security Challenges in FCT
This latest incident adds to the growing list of security breaches in communities around the Federal Capital Territory. The attack demonstrates how criminal elements are increasingly targeting areas previously considered relatively secure.
The use of sophisticated weapons like AK-47 rifles by the bandits highlights the serious firepower these criminal groups possess. Security experts have repeatedly warned about the need for improved security measures in border communities surrounding the nation's capital.
As families of the abducted youths await news about their loved ones, the entire community remains on edge, hoping for the safe return of the seven young persons taken by the armed bandits.
