Bandits Invade Church During Thanksgiving Service
Armed bandits launched a brutal attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun in Kwara State during a Thanksgiving service, leaving three worshippers dead and approximately 35 others kidnapped. The horrific incident occurred in the Eruku community of Ekiti Local Government Area, sending shockwaves through the religious community.
Pastor Recounts the Tragic Events
Pastor Abiodun Bamidele, the church's leader, provided a chilling account of the attack to journalists. The clergyman revealed that the congregation had gathered specifically to celebrate the safe return of 18 church members who had been kidnapped just three weeks earlier. "There was an incident when the bandits came, and they kidnapped almost 30 to 35 members of the church," Pastor Bamidele stated, describing how the joyful service turned into a nightmare.
Community Living in Fear After Repeated Attacks
The Eruku community has been left traumatized by this second kidnapping incident within weeks. Residents are expressing deep fear and anxiety over the repeated security breaches in their area. The attack highlights the growing vulnerability of worshippers in places of worship across Kwara State, raising serious concerns about public safety.
At the time of reporting, security agencies had not yet issued an official statement regarding the attack. However, the repeated nature of these incidents in the same community within such a short timeframe has intensified calls for improved security measures in the region.
The tragic event underscores the ongoing security challenges facing north-central Nigeria, despite Kwara State's official designation as the "State of Harmony." The attack on a religious gathering during what should have been a celebration of deliverance has particularly shaken the moral foundation of the community.
