Gunmen have abducted Grace Ogunleye, the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road while she was returning from official duties.
Details of the Abduction
According to reports, Ogunleye had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before heading to Ido Ekiti. It was along this route that the gunmen struck, taking her captive. Her vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, but her whereabouts remain unknown.

Falade Sunday, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, confirmed the development in a statement. He stated that security agencies have been alerted and efforts are currently underway to rescue the vice chairman.
Sunday Abutu, the Spokesman of the Ekiti State Police Command, told journalists that he would provide further details later. The police are actively investigating the incident and working to ensure Ogunleye's safe return.
