Kwara State has been thrown into mourning following a brutal attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in Eruku community, which resulted in multiple casualties and abductions.
Immediate Security Response Activated
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has taken decisive action by formally requesting President Bola Tinubu to authorize the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the troubled Eruku axis. The community, located on the border with Egbe in Kogi State, has become the latest flashpoint in Nigeria's security challenges.
The brazen assault occurred during Tuesday evening service when armed bandits stormed the church premises, firing shots indiscriminately before marching several congregation members, including the pastor, into the surrounding bush. Three worshippers lost their lives in the violent incident.
Joint Security Operation Launched
According to a statement released by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, combined security forces have been mobilized to hunt down the perpetrators. The joint operation includes personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes who are conducting extensive manhunt operations in the forest areas surrounding Eruku.
Governor AbdulRazaq strongly condemned the attack and expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families. The governor emphasized his full commitment to providing all necessary support to security agencies to tackle the security challenges facing the region.
Building on Previous Security Gains
In his communication with the presidency, Governor AbdulRazaq acknowledged previous support from President Tinubu, specifically commending the earlier deployment of 900 additional troops to Kwara State. The governor noted that this measure had already yielded positive results in restoring calm to previously volatile areas.
Ibraheem Abdullateef, Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Kwara Governor, stated that the goal of the enhanced security measures is to strengthen peace and security across the state. "We have indeed seen appreciable calm in many areas previously affected. We sincerely thank the President for this," the Governor's statement added.
The state government has pledged its full support to security agencies working to restore safety to the region and ensure the safe return of all abducted worshippers. Security operations continue in the Eruku area as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
