The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended five individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping activities, and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a coordinated operation.
Operation Details
According to a statement released on Tuesday, April 28, by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police Command, operatives from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Team executed a well-coordinated operation at Oke-Iya Community on April 23, 2026. The operation was based on credible intelligence and conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards.
Arrests Made
The police image maker disclosed that three suspects—Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar—were arrested during the initial phase. These individuals are believed to be connected to the recent invasion of Idiya community, where five persons were kidnapped.
Further investigations revealed that two of the kidnapped victims had earlier managed to escape from captivity. This development led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two additional suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa.
Recovered Exhibits
Items recovered from the suspects include a locally fabricated revolver rifle that has been adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, Ejire-Adeyemi added.
