NDYC Urges Tinubu to Form Security Task Force After Kebbi Rescue
NDYC urges Tinubu to create security task force

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has made a strong appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the creation of a dedicated security task force. This call to action comes in the wake of the successful and peaceful rescue of 24 schoolgirls who were abducted in Kebbi State.

Commendation for a Strategic Rescue

In a statement released on 27 November 2025 and signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, the NDYC praised the Federal Government for its handling of the incident. The organization described the operation as a strategic, coordinated and non-violent resolution.

The group highlighted that the safe return of the students demonstrates the potential of focused leadership and well-managed intelligence operations. This success story emerges at a critical time when Nigeria is battling a severe insecurity crisis.

Leadership and Tactical Execution Praised

The NDYC specifically commended President Tinubu for his discernment in appointing the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, to lead the sensitive recovery mission. According to the group, this decision showed the President's deep understanding of the nation's security architecture.

Uwejeyan stated that the presidential intervention displayed discernment, foresight and an unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria's most vulnerable citizens. He emphasized that this operation has significantly renewed public confidence in the government's capacity to tackle security threats.

Dr. Matawalle was also lauded for his exemplary conduct. The NDYC credited the minister's calm diplomacy, strategic engagement, and discreet intelligence management as the key factors that ensured the girls' release without any violent confrontation or casualties.

A Call for a Formalized National Response

Building on this success, the NDYC is pushing for a permanent solution. The group has formally requested that President Tinubu establish a Special Presidential Security Task Force on Banditry and Kidnapping.

The organization argued that such a task force, potentially led by Dr. Matawalle, would provide the strong oversight, operational cohesion, and rapid-response capability needed to dismantle criminal networks and restore safety to affected communities across Nigeria.

The statement also acknowledged the crucial contributions of security agencies, traditional rulers, community intelligence units, and local stakeholders. It applauded the resilience of the rescued schoolgirls and expressed profound relief for their families.

The NDYC concluded that this operation is a powerful reminder that Nigeria can overcome its security challenges with decisive leadership and prioritized collaboration. The group urged the Federal Government to sustain this momentum and replicate similar successful interventions in other regions plagued by insecurity.
