The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong condemnation of the brutal attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, which resulted in the abduction of students and the death of a school official.
Details of the Tragic Incident
In the early hours of Tuesday, bandits invaded the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, GGCSS, located in Maga, within the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. Twenty-five students were kidnapped during the assault. The school's Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was shot and killed while bravely attempting to protect the students from the attackers.
According to witnesses, the bandits operated without facing any resistance, causing widespread panic and throwing the entire community into a state of deep fear and mourning. A resident of Maga, Aliyu Yakubu, confirmed that the attack occurred around 5 am and that the vice principal was shot as he tried to shield his students.
PDP's Strong Condemnation and Political Criticism
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the incident as a tragic highlight of the alarming rise in insecurity under the Tinubu-led APC administration. The party asserted that the government has consistently prioritized the politicization of governance over the fundamental duty of protecting citizens.
The PDP stated, "When a government fails in its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, it must accept responsibility and deal decisively with the issues, rather than act aloof or attempt to deflect from the core issues, as this administration has repeatedly done."
The party also commiserated with the parents of the abducted students, the family of the slain Vice Principal, and the staff and management of the school, as well as the government of Kebbi State.
A Pattern of Violence and a Call to Action
The PDP pointed out that the attack in Kebbi is not an isolated event, citing recent abductions in states like Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina. The party criticized this as a betrayal of the promised 'hope renewed' for Nigerians.
Consequently, the PDP has called on President Tinubu to devote urgent and sufficient attention to securing the lives and property of Nigerians to end this tragic cycle of violence. The community of Maga has reportedly faced a series of attacks recently, underscoring the pervasive nature of the security challenge in the region.
