Troops Rescue Kidnapped Victim, Foil Ambush in Kogi

In a decisive security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully thwarted an ambush by armed bandits and rescued a kidnapped victim in Kogi State.

Coordinated Operation Thwarts Criminal Plans

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, November 25, 2025, around the Oshokoshoko and Obajana areas within Lokoja Local Government Area. According to a statement released by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the operation was launched based on credible intelligence about the movement of bandits with abducted persons through the Oshokoshoko-Obajana corridor.

Troops deployed at the Kabba Patrol Base, working in conjunction with Other Hybrid Forces, swiftly conducted a special ambush operation to intercept the criminals. The soldiers laid in wait and made contact with the armed bandits, who were moving with an unconfirmed number of fighters.

Superior Firepower Forces Bandits to Flee

The encounter turned violent when the bandits opened fire on the troops. However, the security forces responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to withdraw in a state of disorder. During the exchange, one bandit was neutralized, while others managed to escape with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

The successful operation led to two significant outcomes:

  • The recovery of one AK-47 rifle from the scene.
  • The rescue of one kidnapped victim.

The victim was found to be weak and in a state of distress. Following the rescue, the individual was immediately evacuated to a medical facility to receive urgent and further medical attention.

Ongoing Pursuit and Call for Public Support

Lieutenant Abdullahi confirmed that further exploitation and pursuit operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the criminal group. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army, stating that it remains steadfast in sustaining pressure on criminal groups to ensure that communities across Kogi State are safe and secure.

The statement ended with an encouragement to residents, urging them to maintain trust in the ongoing operations and to actively support security agencies by providing useful information. Such collaboration is vital for enhancing prompt responses and strengthening the collective fight against crime in the region.
