Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security chiefs to urgently consider the demands of kidnappers holding dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State. The appeal came after a new video surfaced showing victims still in captivity, over three weeks since the May 15, 2026 attack.
Principal Speaks from Captivity
In the video, Rachael Alamu, principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, addressed the public from captivity. She dismissed rumors about demands for money, weapons, or Sharia law, stating the kidnappers instead seek the release of certain individuals held in correctional facilities.
VDM's Emotional Plea
Reacting to the footage, VDM urged authorities to prioritize the safe return of the children and teachers. He wrote on social media: "For the sake of those poor innocent children please President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all service chiefs consider the request and let those kids return to their parents."
Details of the Abduction
The mass abduction occurred when heavily armed men invaded three schools in Oriire Local Government Area: Community High School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School. Reports indicate 46 people were abducted, including 39 pupils (some as young as two) and seven teachers. Public concern intensified after a video allegedly showed the killing of mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun while in captivity.
Nigerians Divided
As families await answers, the nation remains split on the best approach to secure the victims' release. VDM's lawyers have denied involvement in a controversial audio linked to President Tinubu, calling it doctored and urging security agencies to investigate its origin.
