Nigerian Troops Neutralize 38 ISWAP Terrorists in Borno Operation

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized 38 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during a decisive military operation in Borno State. The Joint Task Force, North East, confirmed that the operation was executed on Saturday morning after terrorists launched an aggressive attack on a Forward Operating Base located in Mandaragirau, Sector 2.

Coordinated Military Response and Air Support

According to a detailed statement issued by the task force’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops responded with a highly coordinated series of ambushes and a robust offensive-defensive strategy. This tactical approach forced the attackers into a chaotic and disorganized retreat, significantly disrupting their plans.

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai played a crucial role by providing close air support during the engagement. Targeted strikes were delivered, intensifying pressure on the fleeing insurgents and contributing to the overall success of the mission.

Follow-Up Operations and Recovery of Weapons

The military reported that follow-up operations along the terrorists’ escape routes led to further heavy losses among the insurgent ranks. Lieutenant Colonel Uba stated, “A total of about 38 terrorists were neutralized, with eight bodies recovered within the immediate area of engagement. Human intelligence from locals confirmed over 30 additional bodies and weapons scattered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the Timbuktu Triangle.”

During the operation, troops recovered a significant cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and assorted ammunition. These recoveries are expected to degrade the operational capabilities of the terrorist group in the region.

Minimal Casualties and Local Celebrations

Importantly, no fatalities were recorded among the Nigerian troops. However, one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle sustained damage after being hit by RPG fire. All injured personnel received prompt medical treatment and were stabilized, ensuring their swift recovery.

The military emphasized that the scale of losses inflicted on the insurgents sparked widespread celebrations among local communities. This positive reaction reflects the continued operational dominance and effectiveness of the troops in the region, bolstering public confidence in security efforts.
