Army Arrests Gunrunner, Recovers Arms in Plateau

In a significant crackdown on illicit arms, Nigerian military forces have apprehended a suspected gunrunner and confiscated a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition in Plateau State. The coordinated operations, which took place on Thursday, December 18, 2025, are part of a broader initiative to secure the region during the festive period.

Dawn Raid in Bokkos Uncovers Fabricated Weapons

Acting on precise intelligence, soldiers from the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OP Enduring Peace), joined forces with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS). Together, they stormed a suspected criminal hideout located in Gwender Village, within the Bokkos Local Government Area.

Although the suspects managed to escape before the security forces arrived, a thorough search of the location yielded critical evidence. The recovered items included:

  • One fabricated AK-47 rifle with a magazine.
  • One fabricated pistol.
  • Several rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

Major Ammunition Haul in Mangu

In a separate but related operation on the same day, troops collaborating with a DSS Tactical Team set up a snap checkpoint at Mairana in Mangu Local Government Area. This action was also based on credible intelligence reports.

The operation proved successful when a Fulani youth was intercepted and arrested. The suspect was found in possession of a significant consignment of ammunition. The security forces recovered two boxes containing 1,400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Ongoing Investigations and Commitment to Peace

The military has confirmed that the arrested suspect and all recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation. Furthermore, troops have intensified follow-up operations to track down and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal syndicate involved in these activities.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its unwavering commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating within the state. The primary objective of these operations remains the restoration and maintenance of peace and security across Plateau State and the wider Joint Operations Area, especially as residents prepare to celebrate the yuletide season.
