Troops Uncover IED on Borno Road, Arrest Terrorist Supply Suspects
Army finds bomb, arrests terrorist suppliers in Borno

In a significant security breakthrough, Nigerian military forces have averted a potential tragedy by discovering and neutralizing an explosive device in Borno State, while also disrupting a key terrorist supply line in a separate operation.

Roadside Bomb Discovered and Safely Detonated

According to an official statement released on Saturday, December 20, 2025, troops from Operation HADIN KAI achieved a critical success under the ongoing Operations Desert Sanity IV and V. Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force in the North East, provided the details.

On 17 December 2025, soldiers from the 25 Brigade were conducting a routine patrol along the vital Damboa-Komala Main Supply Route (MSR). During this patrol, their vigilance led to the discovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the roadside.

The troops immediately secured the area and carried out a controlled detonation of the explosive. This prompt action ensured the safety of both military personnel and civilian commuters who use this important road.

Credible Intelligence Leads to Arrest of Logistics Suppliers

In a related but distinct operation driven by credible intelligence, the military scored another victory just two days later. On 19 December 2025, troops manning a checkpoint along the Maiduguri-Bama Road intercepted a suspicious vehicle.

The vehicle, a Lagos-registered car with plate number AKD 244 YE, was found to be carrying a large consignment of supplies. The cargo included substantial quantities of food items and energy drinks.

Military authorities suspect these supplies were intended as logistics support for Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists operating in the Kirawa Ward area of Gwoza Local Government.

Items Recovered and Suspects in Custody

The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects connected to the intercepted vehicle. A subsequent search led to the recovery of several items, which are now part of the investigation.

The recovered evidence includes:

  • The assorted food items and energy drinks.
  • Three mobile phones.
  • An identity card.
  • A ring.
  • Various sums of cash in both Nigerian Naira and CFA francs.

The suspects, the seized vehicle, and all recovered items have been handed over to a specialized military intelligence unit for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Military High Command Commends Troops

The Nigerian Military High Command has praised the troops involved for their alertness and effective response. Officials have urged them to maintain the current operational momentum to keep up the pressure on insurgent groups.

In the statement, the military reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to denying terrorists freedom of movement, dismantling their logistics networks, and ultimately ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in the North East region of Nigeria.
