Police Bust Organ Harvesting Syndicate in Nasarawa

In a separate development from the central region of the country, the Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected organ harvester and the successful rescue of four intended victims. State Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Mohammed Jauro, disclosed this information on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Maro Ebojoh, was apprehended at Yahaya Sabo Motor Park in the Bukan Sidi area of Lafia, the state capital. Police reports indicate that he was in the process of preparing to illegally harvest the kidneys of four young men.

The intended victims have been named as Umar Ahmed Barau (25), Suleman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Dadung (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27). Investigations reveal that the young men were lured with the promise of receiving N2 million each in exchange for their kidneys. To make the offer convincing, the suspects had already made an initial deposit of N500,000 to the victims.

CP Jauro explained that police operatives were detailed to the location where the organ harvesting was scheduled to take place. The victims were initially placed on medical rest at a hotel to stabilize the blood pressure of one individual before further medical screening could be conducted. They were subsequently transferred to a medical facility in Abuja for a comprehensive assessment.

The suspect, Maro Ebojoh, has reportedly confessed to the crime. During interrogation, he admitted to having previously procured a donor for another client two months prior, an operation for which he received N1 million while the victim was paid N2.5 million.

Additional Police Operations in Nasarawa

In a related operation, the Nasarawa police command arrested nine suspects linked to a series of gang-related robberies in Mararaba and its environs. This criminal group was known for attacking residents at night, stealing their mobile phones, and then transferring funds from the victims' bank accounts before eventually selling the stolen devices. Tragically, one of their attacks resulted in the death of the son of a police officer in the Uke Karu area.

CP Shettima Mohammed Jauro has issued a strong warning to the public, especially with the festive season approaching. He cautioned citizens to be extremely wary of individuals posing as legitimate organ donors. The Police Commissioner noted that organ harvesting is becoming a growing menace in Nasarawa State, often preying on impoverished youths who are engaged in menial jobs as a means of survival.
