The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a crucial advisory to all Nigerians, urging heightened vigilance in public spaces to bolster personal and community security. This call comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety across the nation's bustling urban and rural areas.
Public Alertness in Crowded Areas
In an official statement released on Friday via its X platform and obtained by media outlets, the DHQ specifically highlighted the need for caution in markets, churches, and other high-traffic gatherings. The military authority emphasized that situational awareness is paramount for preventing criminal activities and ensuring collective security.
The statement read: "Remain alert in crowded places, markets, churches, and public gatherings. Promptly report any unusual behaviour or persons to the nearest security agency. Remember to always maintain situational awareness."
Citizens are strongly encouraged to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to the closest security agency. The DHQ stressed that public cooperation with security personnel is essential for reducing risks and safeguarding communities nationwide.
Army's Commitment to Displaced Populations
In a related development, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's unwavering dedication to supporting civil authorities in addressing the challenges faced by refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons.
Shaibu gave this assurance during a courtesy visit from Dr. Tijani Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
