The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army's 82 Division, Major-General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, has made a firm commitment to bolster security operations across the South-East geopolitical zone. This pledge was central to his inaugural operational tour of military formations under his command.
Operational Tour and Call for Synergy
During his visits to the 13 and 14 Brigades and other units within the Division's Area of Responsibility on December 2 and 3, 2025, General Fadairo stressed the critical need for collaboration. He paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, at the Government House in Umuahia.
In discussions with the governor and heads of various security agencies, the GOC championed the idea of a joint security summit. He proposed that state governors and security chiefs from across the South-East region should convene to forge a unified strategy. This summit, he argued, is essential for strengthening synergy and effectively tackling the security challenges facing the region.
Commitment to Troops and Infrastructure
A significant part of the GOC's tour involved interacting directly with officers and soldiers. He commended their gallantry in degrading separatist groups and other criminal elements. Fadairo conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, and reassured the troops of the leadership's commitment to their welfare during and after service.
Demonstrating this focus on welfare, General Fadairo commissioned key projects at the 13 Brigade. These included:
- The General O.O. Oluyede Hall: A modern, multi-purpose facility for lectures and conferences.
- Two units of Soldiers' Transit Accommodation Quarters: Providing improved living conditions for personnel.
He praised the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General M.O. Ibrahim, for these initiatives, describing them as clear evidence of proactive leadership dedicated to troop welfare.
Renewed Strategies and Charge to Personnel
General Fadairo assured Governor Otti of renewed and enhanced security strategies designed to build on past successes and reinvigorate ongoing operations. He expressed gratitude for the state government's consistent support to the Division and other security agencies.
Addressing officers and soldiers in the 14 Brigade's area, the GOC charged them to remain patriotic and resolute in eliminating residual criminal activities. He emphasized the dual responsibility of respecting law-abiding citizens while working seamlessly with other security agencies. He urged all personnel to maintain professionalism and the current operational tempo, which reflects the Nigerian Army's renewed drive for excellence and joint-force readiness.
The tour, which included operational briefings and addresses to troops, underscored the GOC's unwavering commitment to operational excellence, professionalism, and the well-being of the soldiers under his command.
