Security Group Praises Military Gains in North Central Region
The Civic Centre for National Security and Civic Responsibility (CCNSCR) has issued a formal commendation to the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria for achieving what the group describes as notable and encouraging improvements in security operations across the North Central geopolitical zone of the country.
Statement Highlights Renewed Operational Coordination
In a detailed statement released on Thursday, the organization highlighted that recent military gains reflect a renewed operational coordination and a more proactive approach to tackling the persistent insecurity that has plagued the region. The statement, which was signed by the group's Executive Director, Johnson Audu, pointed out that communities previously devastated by banditry and violent attacks are now beginning to witness a gradual restoration of order and normalcy.
The CCNSCR specifically noted several key indicators of progress, including:
- Increased strategic troop deployment to affected areas
- Improved response times to distress calls from civilians
- Successful disruption of established criminal networks
- Sustained military offensives targeting known criminal enclaves
- Enhanced surveillance capabilities and rapid deployment mechanisms
According to the group's assessment, these combined efforts have significantly weakened the operational strength of various armed groups operating in the region.
Warning Against Complacency and Call for Sustained Efforts
While acknowledging the measurable improvements, the CCNSCR issued a clear warning that these security gains remain fragile and could easily be reversed without continued military commitment. The organization urged the Armed Forces to maintain their current operational momentum and consider expanding similar successful strategies to other affected regions across Nigeria.
"These gains, while commendable, remain fragile. It is imperative that the Armed Forces sustain the current operational tempo," the statement emphasized, adding that consistent military presence and engagement are critical factors for achieving long-term stability in the region.
Easter Security Preparations and Public Cooperation
Looking ahead to the upcoming Easter celebrations, the security-focused group called for heightened vigilance nationwide. It urged all security agencies to intensify deployments and maintain a strong, visible presence across key locations to guarantee public safety during the festive period.
The CCNSCR further emphasized that lasting security cannot be achieved through military efforts alone. The organization called on Nigerian citizens to:
- Remain vigilant in their communities
- Share credible intelligence with security agencies promptly
- Support ongoing military operations through active community engagement
The group also urged community leaders and civil society organizations to play a more active role in promoting trust and collaboration between residents and security agencies, describing this relationship as essential to sustaining recent security improvements.
Foundation for Broader National Stability
In concluding its statement, the Civic Centre for National Security and Civic Responsibility reaffirmed its support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria and called for a united national effort to comprehensively address the country's security challenges. The organization suggested that the progress recorded in the North Central region should serve as a foundational model for achieving broader stability across Nigeria, provided that operational momentum is maintained and citizen participation is strengthened through ongoing community engagement initiatives.
