Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has issued a directive for comprehensive security arrangements across all states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. This move aims to ensure the safety and peaceful observance of the festival marking the end of Ramadan.
Robust Security Measures Implemented
In a statement released by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, IGP Disu emphasized that the security of Nigerians remains the top priority under his leadership. The operational measures include the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives to key locations.
Key deployments involve:
- Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel at Eid prayer grounds and critical infrastructure.
- Increased police presence on highways, motor parks, recreational centers, and other public spaces to facilitate hitch-free celebrations.
Enhanced Policing and Public Cooperation
IGP Disu has also ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties. These actions are designed to proactively deter criminal activities and ensure swift responses to any emerging threats during the festive period.
