At a time when conversations around insecurity, operational failures and protection of lives and assets have become increasingly urgent in Nigeria, security expert and Managing Director of Pahek Security Services Ltd, Charles Keku, has unveiled a new book aimed at redefining how security operations are managed across the country.
New Blueprint for Security Operations
The book, Security Guarding Operations Blueprint: A Field Control System for Security Operations, presents a structured framework designed to move organisations from what Keku describes as 'mere security presence' to measurable and verifiable operational control. Drawing from over 15 years of frontline experience and nearly four decades of Pahek Security Services Ltd's operational history, Keku said the Blueprint addresses a widespread misconception in the industry.
Presence vs. Control
“Security operations are either controlled or exposed. Presence alone does not create security, control does. For too long, the industry has confused activity with protection. Guards are deployed, posts are covered and everyone assumes things are working. Assumption is not a security strategy,” he said. He explained that the book focuses on real operational challenges faced by guards, supervisors and field coordinators. “Security rarely fails because procedures do not exist. It fails because structured systems are absent, weak, or disconnected from how the work is actually carried out on the ground. Every module and control tool in this Blueprint was shaped by real field experience.”
Operational Modules and Tools
The publication contains ten operational modules covering deployment, patrol systems, incident management, access control, supervision, documentation, guard welfare, training and quality assurance. It also includes practical tools such as logbooks, registers, duty rosters, incident forms and KPI dashboards to improve accountability. Keku stressed that improving security effectiveness requires stronger systems, not increased manpower. “If you are serious about improving your security operations, the next step is not more guards. It is control. This is not a conventional book, it is an operational standard,” he said.
Personal Tribute and Industry Impact
He also paid tribute to his late father, founder of Pahek Security Services Ltd, saying his early exposure to field operations shaped his approach. Industry stakeholders note the Blueprint arrives amid growing demand for accountability and professional standards in Nigeria's private security sector.
