Determined Lady Refuses to Abandon Military Dream After Multiple Rejections
A young Nigerian woman named Splendor Nkiruka Emmanuel has demonstrated remarkable resilience in her pursuit of a military career, despite facing three consecutive rejections from the Nigerian Armed Forces. The Lagos-based professional cleaner remains undeterred in her ambition to serve the nation through military service.
Three Attempts and Counting: Splendor's Military Journey
Splendor's most recent attempt to join the military occurred in 2024 when she applied to the Nigerian Navy. Her screening took place at the Borokiri facility in Port Harcourt, but unfortunately ended in disappointment. Speaking exclusively about her experience, Splendor described it as "bittersweet" while praising the professionalism she witnessed.
"All the personnel, including senior officers, were professional and disciplined," she recalled. "There was no need to unnecessarily punish us, unless any of us committed, like making noise or disobeying orders. We were properly fed — three square meals, and eventually we were given transportation fare to our various destinations."
Her military application history reveals persistent determination: one attempt with the Nigerian Air Force in 2023, two applications to the Nigerian Navy, and one attempt with the Nigerian Army. When asked about specific reasons for her rejections, Splendor revealed that medical screening issues affected her Navy application, while other attempts didn't progress beyond the shortlisting stage.
The Driving Force Behind Her Military Ambition
What keeps Splendor motivated despite repeated setbacks? The answer lies in pure passion. When questioned about her unwavering determination, she simply stated: "Hmmmmm. Passion is driving me. Passion to serve."
Her vision extends beyond any single branch of the military. "I don't have a passion for the Nigerian Navy alone. I have a passion for the military as a whole," she emphasized, demonstrating her comprehensive commitment to serving Nigeria through any available channel in the Armed Forces.
While pursuing her military dreams, Splendor continues to operate her cleaning business and remains open to other opportunities that could help elevate her career. Her ultimate goal remains unchanged: "To join the military and serve the nation."
Encounter with Notable Naval Officer
During her Navy screening in Port Harcourt, Splendor had a memorable encounter with Lieutenant Yerima Ahmad, the naval officer who gained attention for standing up to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. She described him as a "very cracked and parkard officer" who demonstrated immense professionalism and ruggedness.
Splendor noted that Lieutenant Yerima was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words carried significant weight. She particularly remembered struggling to keep pace with him during endurance running exercises, highlighting the physical demands of military training.
As Splendor prepares for what might be her fourth attempt to join the Nigerian military, her story serves as an inspiration to many young Nigerians facing similar challenges in pursuing their career aspirations.
