Governor Makinde Calls for Enhanced Welfare for Military Personnel in Oyo State
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that the welfare of men and women in uniform must be prioritized, citing their immense sacrifices in maintaining peace and security across the region. The governor made this emphatic statement during the Chief of Army Staff Special Sallah Celebration with troops at the 2 Division Nigerian Army, held at the Forward Operating Base in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Recognition of Sacrifices and Contributions to State Safety
In his address, Governor Makinde expressed deep appreciation for the troops' unwavering efforts, which he credited with making Oyo State one of the safest in Nigeria. He highlighted that the security and peace enjoyed in the state have directly enabled unprecedented developments in key sectors such as the economy, education, and healthcare.
Makinde stated, "Today marks the end of Ramadan, a month of sacrifice. When we discuss who truly understands sacrifice, I believe no one is in a better position than our military personnel. While many of us celebrate Eid with our families, they remain on the frontlines, ensuring our safety and security. What greater sacrifice could there be?"
He further elaborated on the critical link between security and progress, noting, "Without a safe and secure environment, investments, trade, and economic activities would be impossible. Even educating our children becomes unfeasible in a state of insecurity. Therefore, we owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to our troops."
Commitment to Welfare and Support from Army Leadership
Governor Makinde underscored the necessity of prioritizing the welfare of troops, asserting, "You are making sacrifices for us, so your welfare must be a top priority. We keep you safe, and in return, we must ensure your well-being is looked after." He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the leadership of the Nigerian Army for implementing programs and policies aimed at enhancing troop welfare.
He concluded with a prayer for the troops' protection and the significance of their efforts, saying, "I pray that your sacrifices are never in vain. As you work tirelessly to allow us to sleep peacefully, I pray for the safety of your families wherever they may be."
