Tragic Incident in Ikorodu Claims Soldier's Life
A devastating event unfolded in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, when a Nigerian soldier deployed for internal security duties lost his life after being attacked by a mentally unstable individual. The Nigerian Army confirmed the tragic incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2025, around 4:00 pm.
Details of the Fatal Attack
According to official statements from the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, Musa Yahaya, the soldier was attempting to de-escalate a chaotic situation when the mentally unstable man struck him on the head with a heavy log. The blow caused severe injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
The situation was swiftly brought under control by other soldiers at the scene, who subdued the attacker and recovered the deceased soldier's weapon. The injured soldier was immediately evacuated to Ikorodu General Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.
Army Response and Burial Ceremony
The Nigerian Army disclosed that the deceased officer received a proper burial according to Islamic rites, with the ceremony attended by the Acting Commanding Officer and his colleagues. The 81 Division expressed deep sympathy to the family, friends, and loved ones of the fallen soldier.
