Nigerian Military Applauded for Recording Major Wins in North Central
The Civic Centre for National Security and Civic Responsibility has commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for achieving significant security improvements across the North Central region. In a statement released on Thursday, March 26, the group highlighted intensified operations that have begun to reduce long-standing threats linked to banditry and violent attacks, restoring a sense of order in affected communities.
Leadership and Coordination Credited for Success
The organisation specifically credited Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede with providing clearer operational direction and stronger coordination within the armed forces. According to the statement, signed by Executive Director Dr Johnson Audu, recent operations reflect a shift toward intelligence-led actions, supported by sustained patrols and surveillance. This approach has disrupted criminal networks and limited their freedom to operate, leading to visible military presence and quicker responses to distress situations.
Improved Security Boosts Confidence and Economy
The group noted that the ability of troops to secure major transport routes has improved movement and economic activity in the region. Residents in some locations are reportedly regaining confidence in security arrangements as attacks decline. Dr Audu emphasized that the men and women of the Armed Forces deserve national recognition for their resilience, discipline, and commitment in the face of complex operational challenges.
Call to Consolidate Gains and Ensure Easter Security
While acknowledging progress, the Civic Centre warned that the gains remain delicate and urged the military to maintain momentum and avoid any reduction in operational intensity. Looking ahead to the Easter period, the group called for heightened alertness nationwide to guarantee safe celebrations. It also appealed to citizens to support security agencies by sharing credible information and rejecting collaboration with criminal elements, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility.
Broader Context of Military Success
This commendation comes amid broader military efforts, including recent reports of troops repelling a coordinated terrorist assault in the Northeast, neutralizing over 80 insurgents. The Civic Centre concluded by reaffirming its support for the Armed Forces and urging sustained cooperation between communities and security agencies to extend stability beyond the North Central region.
