Nigerians are calling for a thorough investigation into what authorities describe as an attempted assassination on Navy Lieutenant Ahmad M. Yerima in the nation's capital, Abuja. According to military sources, the dramatic event occurred on November 17, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Lieutenant Yerima reportedly found himself targeted by two unmarked Hilux vans without license plates while departing from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway.
The situation escalated into a high-speed chase through Abuja streets, culminating near Gado Nasco Way. Military insiders claim that only a tactical manoeuvre by the officer prevented what could have been a fatal outcome. The same sources confirm that the matter is currently under official investigation and receiving what they describe as the seriousness it deserves.
Connection to Wike Confrontation
This alarming development comes mere days after Lieutenant Yerima's widely publicized confrontation with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. The tense encounter occurred while Yerima was performing his duties with other security personnel at a disputed land site in Gaduwa District.
Viral videos captured the heated exchange between the military officer and the prominent minister, sparking nationwide discussion and eventually prompting intervention from the Presidency. The demolition exercise that triggered the confrontation was subsequently halted following presidential involvement.
