- Multiple disused Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) handsets
Technical experts have identified the recovered mobile handsets as primary components frequently used in constructing remotely detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), highlighting the dangerous nature of the intercepted shipment.
Suspect Interrogation and Arrests
During initial on-site interrogation, the vehicle driver identified as Mr. Khalifa Bawa attempted to distance himself from the contraband materials. Bawa claimed the lethal hardware constituted a "waybill" consignment allegedly received from an anonymous source.
"Bawa alleged that the items were handed over by an unidentified individual but could not provide contact information or identifying details for either the sender at the point of origin or the intended recipient at the destination," stated Captain Oteh in the official release.
All seven occupants of the Opel Wagon vehicle, including the driver, were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.
