In a decisive military operation, Nigerian troops have eliminated seventeen terrorists belonging to the Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) factions. The successful ambush prevented a planned attack on communities in Borno State.
Coordinated Ambush Thwarts Planned Attacks
The operation was conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), working in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), vigilantes, and local hunters. Acting on credible intelligence, the security forces intercepted the terrorists who were advancing towards Sojiri and Kayamla villages in Konduga Local Council.
A military source in Maiduguri confirmed that the insurgents were neutralized in the early hours of Sunday, December 22, 2025. The communities are located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Silent Approach Foiled by Troops
Intelligence reports indicated that the terrorists were using an unusual method to transport their logistics. "On December 21, 2025 at about 2:24 a.m., the terrorists transported their logistic materials to the two communities on bicycles to prevent the sounds of engines from vehicles or motorcycles," the source revealed.
Upon confirming the terrorists' movement, the troops positioned themselves in concealed and strategic formations. They engaged the advancing insurgents decisively, leading to a fierce exchange of fire.
Significant Recoveries Made
Following the engagement, 17 terrorists were confirmed killed. Several others escaped with gunshot wounds, fleeing in the direction of the vast Sambisa Forest.
The troops recovered a large cache of items from the fleeing insurgents, including:
- Over a dozen bicycles used for logistics
- Assorted food items and medical supplies
- Detergents and clothing materials
- Bicycle tyres and torch lights
- Various weapons of different makes and ammunition
The ambush team safely withdrew to its base at about 4:20 a.m. after the successful operation. The military source stated that exploitation and follow-up operations are ongoing to further dominate the area and deny insurgents freedom of movement.
"The coordinated operation underscores our continued effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security efforts in degrading terrorists networks and intercepting their logistics to sustain military capacity," the source added. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to secure communities in Borno State from terrorist threats.
