According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Habba Umar was a specialist in the fabrication of IEDs and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), with direct links to terrorist elements of both Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). His role extended beyond mere fabrication, as he was reportedly a key figure in training and coordinating explosive device activities for the group.
Intelligence sources indicate that Umar operated within an enclave around Arena Wuje, where he allegedly played a pivotal role in orchestrating explosive operations.
