The Delta State Police Command has apprehended four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate connected to a firearm discovered on an upcoming artiste, Oghenemine Ogidi, who was extrajudicially killed by a police officer in Effurun Local Government Area of the state.
Police Commissioner Announces Breakthrough
State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed the arrests in a statement released on Monday, June 8. He revealed that the breakthrough resulted from an intensive, intelligence-led investigation initiated after the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a motor park in Uvwie Local Government Area on May 1.
According to CP Oyeniyi, operatives tracked and arrested the suspects during coordinated operations across Bayelsa and Imo states. The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike.
Details of the Investigation
“The first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was arrested in Bayelsa on May 4, 2026, alongside his friend and roommate, whose phone he used to communicate for the gun purchase. Emmanuel revealed that he bought the gun from one Amadi Princewill for the sum of Two Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira (N290,000) and sold it to one Desmond (at large) for Three Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira (N380,000). Desmond then waybilled it to Effurun and contacted Oghenemine Ogidi (now deceased) to collect it and send to Sapele.
“Following Emmanuel Chukwuemeka’s confession, the second suspect, Amadi Princewill, was trailed and arrested in Imo State on May 15, 2026. Upon arrest and interrogation, he stated that he bought the gun from one Amadi Felix for Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000). Consequently, Amadi Felix was trailed and arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026,” the CP said.
Background of the Incident
On April 26, upcoming musician Oghenemine Ogidi went to an Effurun motor park to pick up a waybill package for a friend, unaware it contained a hidden Beretta pistol. After park operators discovered the weapon, responding police officers bound Ogidi’s hands and feet. Despite a viral video showing him weeping and pleading that he had been deceived, ASP Nuhu Usman executed the restrained 28-year-old at point-blank range.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to dismantle the remainder of the syndicate.
