The Delta State Police Command has officially disbursed a substantial sum of ₦16,679,749.92 to the families of police officers who lost their lives while serving in the line of duty. This compassionate gesture, carried out on Thursday, involved the presentation of cheques to 13 beneficiaries, representing a critical component of the Nigeria Police Force's ongoing welfare initiatives designed to alleviate the financial burdens faced by bereaved families.
Solemn Ceremony Highlights Institutional Commitment
During the presentation event, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, addressed attendees, characterizing the occasion as both solemn and significant. He emphasized the Force's unwavering dedication to the welfare of its officers and their dependants, assuring the beneficiaries that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them during their time of need.
"Their service and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered. The Force is committed to ensuring that their families are not left behind," Oyeniyi stated. He further urged the recipients to utilize the funds prudently, highlighting the importance of responsible financial management in honoring the legacy of the fallen officers.
Addressing Morale Amid Security Challenges
This initiative underscores the growing efforts by police authorities to bolster morale within the ranks, particularly in the face of escalating security challenges across Nigeria. Officers are frequently exposed to high-risk operations, making such welfare programs essential for maintaining operational effectiveness and demonstrating institutional support.
The disbursement is part of a broader strategy to cushion the impact of loss on bereaved families, reaffirming the Force's commitment to its personnel. By providing financial assistance, the police aim to offer tangible support that helps families navigate the difficult period following their losses.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude for Support
In response to the gesture, Ahanuwa Raphael, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Command for the financial support. He noted that the assistance would deliver much-needed relief to the families, enabling them to cope with the emotional and financial hardships resulting from their losses.
Raphael emphasized that this support not only provides immediate financial aid but also serves as a meaningful acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by the fallen officers. The beneficiaries conveyed their gratitude for the recognition and assistance during such a challenging time.
The Delta State Police Command's action reflects a proactive approach to personnel welfare, aiming to foster a supportive environment within the Force. As security challenges persist, such initiatives are crucial for sustaining officer morale and ensuring that the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice receive the care and support they deserve.
