False Beheading Report Sparks Tension in Adamawa

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) in Adamawa State has strongly refuted alarming social media reports claiming that Fulani herdsmen beheaded the current CAN Chairman of Adamawa State. In an official statement released on November 8, 2025, the youth wing described the viral information as completely false and dangerously misleading.

Official Denial and Clarification

Rev. Dr. Gabriel L. Shall, Chairman of YOWICAN in Adamawa State, signed the statement categorically denying the disturbing report. "We wish to categorically state that this information is entirely false. The present leadership of CAN in Adamawa State has not experienced any such incident," the statement emphasized.

While addressing the false claims, Rev. Shall provided important context by recalling that in 2020, the late Rev. Lawan Andimi, who served as CAN Chairman of Michika local government council, was indeed abducted and later killed by insurgents. He noted that this past tragedy remains a painful memory for the Church and the nation, but stressed that no similar incident has occurred recently involving the current state leadership.

Police Investigation and Additional Arrest

The Adamawa State Police Command has also dismissed the fabricated report, labeling it as "the handiwork of mischief-makers" designed to create panic, tension, and religious discord within the state. In their official statement, police authorities confirmed that "there is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State."

Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris has urged the public to disregard the fake news and always verify information from credible sources before sharing it online. He further disclosed that an investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those responsible for creating and spreading the false report.

The police identified the origin of the misinformation as a post published by a Facebook user known as Lionman Lioni, which circulated widely across social media platforms and caused significant concern among residents.

In a separate development, the police command reported the arrest of 71-year-old Jeriel Clifford Peter for allegedly killing his 67-year-old wife, Miltha Jeriel, following a domestic dispute. According to police reports, this tragic incident occurred on November 6, 2025, after an argument between the couple that began at a beer parlour in the Demsa Local Government Council area.

Call for Responsible Information Sharing

Both YOWICAN and the police have made urgent appeals to the public to practice responsible information sharing. "We call on the general public to verify information before sharing, especially on sensitive issues that affect the peace and unity of our communities," Rev. Shall emphasized in his statement.

YOWICAN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting truth, unity, and peaceful coexistence among all residents of Adamawa State, while the police reiterated their dedication to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of everyone across the state.
