The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated a significant security reinforcement across the territory in preparation for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Major Joint Security Operation Launched
Commissioner of Police CP Miller Dantawaye has authorized a comprehensive security operation involving multiple security agencies. The special operation, which commenced on November 9, 2025, brings together personnel from the Police Anti-Kidnapping unit, the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups.
According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the joint security teams have been deployed to forested and border communities linking Bwari to Kaduna State, Bwari to Niger State, and Gwagwalada to Niger State.
Engaging Communities and Religious Leaders
The security initiative has a clear threefold objective: to strengthen community confidence, deter criminal elements, and ensure that residents can conduct religious activities without fear of harassment or attacks.
During security patrols, church leaders in the affected areas were directly engaged and reassured of the police command's unwavering commitment to their safety and that of their congregations.
Security agencies also conducted sensitization programs, advising religious organizations on proactive security measures including:
- Minimizing late-night religious activities
- Maintaining close contact with security agencies
- Promptly reporting any suspicious movements or persons
Shared Responsibility for Safety
Reiterating CP Dantawaye's belief that safety is a collective responsibility, the police command has called on all FCT residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security personnel.
The Commissioner emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the success of the security measures put in place for the yuletide season. Residents are encouraged to report any unusual activities to security agencies immediately through designated emergency channels.
