Police Arrest Newlywed Brother of Influencer Hybrid Soulja in Mistaken Identity Case
Police Arrest Newlywed Brother of Influencer Hybrid Soulja

Social media influencer wMilan Samuel Chukwu, widely known as Hybrid Soulja, has publicly condemned the Nigeria Police Force after his younger brother was arrested in what he describes as an illegal attempt to pressure him. The incident, which occurred on Monday, July 27, 2026, has sparked outrage as the brother had been married just a fortnight earlier.

Disturbing Phone Call Reveals Arrest

Hybrid Soulja recounted receiving a distressing call from his brother's phone number, only to hear a stranger's voice on the other end. 'There was a strange voice at the other end. He told me that my brother was owing people money. I asked if I could speak with my younger brother, and he said no and that my younger brother is behind the counter. I said, even if my brother is behind the counter, let me speak with him. He ended the call and switched off the phone.' The influencer immediately sensed danger, noting that he had been aware that certain people were looking for him.

Family Unaware of Detention

Hybrid Soulja then contacted his eldest sister and his brother's wife to ask if they knew about the arrest, but they were completely unaware. 'My younger brother that they detained got married two Saturdays ago,' he said, underscoring the timing of the incident. Shortly afterward, his brother managed to retrieve his phone and texted their elder sister, informing her that he had been detained by individuals seeking the influencer. The brother specifically stated that it was the people looking for Hybrid Soulja who had arrested him.

Influencer Takes Legal Action

Upon receiving the text, Hybrid Soulja left his home immediately, fearing for his safety. He contacted his lawyer, who was already handling a petition filed against the influencer in Lagos. 'I called my lawyer, and I said I thought the petition they wrote against me in Lagos, you were attending to it and speaking with the police people. He said Yes. I said they just arrested my brother now in a way to fish me out. He said that is not correct.' Disturbed, the influencer then reached out to the female police officer overseeing the Lagos petition, updating her on the situation. She denied any involvement, stating that she had not dispatched officers to Abuja and that arresting his brother as a means to locate him was illegal.

Conflicting Information from Authorities

Hybrid Soulja's Abuja-based lawyer contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who reportedly said there was no such case on record. Meanwhile, the brother was transferred to a different police station in Area 10. In a subsequent call, the brother revealed that earlier that morning, a group of men had entered his workplace, escorted him outside, and shown him a picture of Hybrid Soulja, asking if he knew him and demanding to be taken to his residence. The police admitted they had been tracking the brother's phone calls, establishing that the siblings were in regular contact before arresting him at his office.

Questions Over Legality

Hybrid Soulja has questioned the legality of the operation, particularly why police traveled from Lagos to Abuja to detain his brother over a petition filed in Lagos. He argued that such actions constitute an abuse of process. However, his brother has since been released, though the influencer continues to demand accountability. The case highlights persistent concerns about police overreach and the misuse of legal mechanisms for personal vendettas. Hybrid Soulja has urged the public and authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly to prevent similar incidents.
