The Oyo State Police Command has initiated a high-level investigation following the discovery of a handwritten note threatening an attack on the Ikoyi-Ile community in Orire Local Government Area.
Security Forces Mobilized Across Community
According to a statement released on Saturday, 10 January 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the note was found in front of a residential building. Authorities believe suspected bandits authored the message, which was written in both Yoruba and English.
In immediate response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, PSC (+), ordered the activation of the command's full intelligence and operational resources. This includes the State Intelligence Department (SID) and tactical teams, who have begun debriefing individuals connected to the note's discovery.
Robust Security Measures Deployed
Operational assets have been repositioned within Ikoyi-Ile and surrounding areas. The police have significantly reinforced several security strategies:
- Armed patrols and 24-hour high alert status for personnel.
- Intensified stop-and-search operations and intelligence surveillance.
- Sustained ground presence to dominate the area and deter criminals.
The Area Command has been directed to maintain constant supervision and continuous patrol coverage across the affected axis.
Police Assure Public, Call for Vigilance
The Command has launched a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation to determine the note's origin, authenticity, and intent, promising to pursue all leads. CP Haruna strongly reassured residents of Ikoyi-Ile and Oyo State at large that there is no cause for panic.
“Robust security measures have been fully activated and are already in place to safeguard lives and property,” the Commissioner noted. He added that residents would observe increased police visibility and security engagements aimed at guaranteeing peace.
The Police Command is collaborating with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain a unified, proactive security posture across the state, reiterating their resolve to prevent criminal threats from taking root.
