Zamfara Police Foil Bandit Attack, Rescue 25 Captives
In a significant victory for security forces in Nigeria's northwest, the Zamfara State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of twenty-five kidnapped victims following a fierce confrontation with armed bandits. The operation, which took place on the night of Friday, November 21, 2025, saw all captives freed without harm.
Details of the Daring Rescue Mission
The incident began at approximately 9:45 PM when a large group of bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area. The assailants fired sporadically, creating panic before abducting 10 women and 15 of their children from the community.
According to the police spokesman, DSP Yazid Abubakar, a distress call was immediately received, triggering a swift and coordinated response. A joint team comprising police patrol units from the Damba Division and the Department of Operations in Gusau, working hand-in-hand with the State's Community Protection Guards (CPG), was rapidly mobilized for a rescue mission.
A Fire-for-Fire Engagement and Successful Outcome
The security forces pursued the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a strategic, intense firefight. The operatives demonstrated remarkable gallantry and professionalism during the encounter.
Thanks to their swift action, all twenty-five abducted victims were successfully rescued unhurt. Following the operation, the rescued women and children were relocated to Sabongari Damba for their safety and to undergo proper profiling. They have since been joyfully reunited with their families.
The State's Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the officers for their bravery and dedication. He further reassured the public of the command's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents across Zamfara State.
