The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to the command's Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.
Distress Call and Swift Response
Mahmud disclosed in a statement that the command received a distress call reporting the drowning of the teenager, a resident of Bokoto Quarters, Dutse. Upon receiving the alert, NSCDC personnel stationed at the Takur Site Division immediately mobilised to the scene. They evacuated the victim from the pond and rushed him to the General Hospital, Dutse, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
The statement read: “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has confirmed the drowning of a 15-year-old boy, Isah Muhammad, at a pond popularly known as Sterling Pond along Disina Road in Dutse Local Government Area.” It further detailed that the incident happened when the command received a distress call, and personnel at Takur Site Division responded promptly.
Release of Remains and Condolences
Following the confirmation of death, the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. The State Commandant of NSCDC Jigawa State Command, Commandant Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.
