A fire outbreak on Saturday night razed four vehicles and a container at a mechanic workshop located on Togunde Street, Akingbade Area, along Old Ife Road, Gbagi, Ibadan. The Oyo State Fire Services Agency confirmed the incident, stating that a distress call was received at approximately 9:16 p.m. via a telephone report from a man named Mr. Damola.
Firefighters Respond Swiftly
According to the agency, a team of fire personnel led by a Chief Fire Superintendent was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the firefighters found that a container and four vehicles within the workshop had been engulfed by flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected property.
The agency reported that its personnel successfully contained the inferno, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and other properties in the area. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from sparks emanating from a vehicle's engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials within the workshop.
No Casualties Recorded
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded during the incident. The firefighting operation was conducted jointly by personnel from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency and the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
Official Statement on Fire Safety
Confirming the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant about fire safety at all times. He emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in workshops, commercial premises, and vehicles to enable prompt response to fire outbreaks before they escalate.
Dr. Akinwande also appealed to the public to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses to facilitate quick emergency response.
