The authorities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State have taken decisive action to address security concerns by imposing a comprehensive dusk-to-dawn curfew across the entire territory.
Curfew Details and Immediate Effect
Hon. Edibo Peter Mark, the Chairman of Omala Local Government, officially announced the stringent measure in a statement released on Wednesday, December 3. The curfew is set to run from 7:00 pm each evening until 6:00 am the following morning. This restriction took effect from Monday, December 2, 2025, and will remain in force until further notice is given.
The directive covers all eleven wards within the local government area. Chairman Mark described the curfew as an urgent and necessary step designed to protect the lives and property of residents, citing the general security challenges experienced nationwide.
Enhanced Security Measures and Banned Activities
Alongside the curfew, the local government has activated a 24-hour security surveillance and patrol system within its communities. A Joint Task Force has been deployed to conduct full patrols and implement intensive stop-and-search operations at all border points of the LGA.
In a significant move affecting religious and social gatherings, the chairman ordered the suspension of all public events. This suspension specifically includes:
- Moulud celebrations
- Christian all-night vigils
- Any similar programs that draw crowds
Furthermore, the use of festival fireworks has been expressly prohibited. For standard religious services, the directive mandates that Sunday church services and mosque prayers must be conducted briefly and concluded without delay to avoid creating large, stationary targets.
Appeal for Compliance and Assurance of Safety
Hon. Edibo Peter Mark appealed directly to the residents of Omala LGA to comply fully with the executive order. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation with security agencies to ensure the overall safety of the local government area.
The chairman offered assurances to the community, stating that security operatives would maintain their around-the-clock patrols throughout the festive season. This measure, he explained, is intended to guarantee peace and stability despite the restrictive measures now in place.
