Lagos Donates Vehicle to Police Violent Crimes Unit, Seeks Sustained Security Support
Lagos Donates Vehicle to Police Violent Crimes Unit

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has donated a brand new operational vehicle to the Nigeria Police Force's newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit, Lagos State Command. The donation was made during the visit of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the LSSTF, led by its Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr Ayo Ogunsan, on Saturday. The gesture reinforces the Fund's longstanding commitment to security.

The vehicle presentation by Dr Ogunsan aligns with LSSTF's track record of equipping the police and other security agencies with critical assets, ranging from patrol vehicles to surveillance infrastructure. The move positions Lagos among the first states to officially support the new policing initiative.

In a symbolic exchange underscoring partnership, souvenirs were presented by the LSSTF CEO to the IGP, while the IGP also presented a souvenir to Dr Ogunsan. The visit highlighted collaboration between government, private sector stakeholders and law enforcement in strengthening security architecture.

IGP Commends LSSTF Model

Speaking during the visit, IGP Disu said: "LSSTF is a model that virtually all the states in Nigeria have come to understudy, even Force HQ came and they started the version of RRS in Abuja FCT." He described operational gains enabled by LSSTF support, adding: "They made our jobs very easy. I had 2,000 men to manage, many operational vehicles, 40 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) working in perfect condition, three helicopters, and my patrol vehicle came in sets so that when one was being serviced, the other one was working."

He added: "I also came to solicit support for the Lagos State Police Command, we all know the importance of Lagos and the influx of people from all over the nation into Lagos. These are the men managing security. As you have always done, please give us the support, give us vehicles and help us activate the helicopters because with an eye in the sky, the job becomes easier."

Reflecting on his early career, he said: "When I started my work as a Police officer, I remember I met Mr Adedigba who retired as a DCP. He became my mentor, I gained a lot from him and up till date, he taught me great lessons."

Call for Sustained Funding

In his remarks, Dr Ogunsan called for sustained funding support for the Trust Fund, stating: "We need money to run the LSSTF and only a few people are doing the job. Donor apathy is setting in over the years, especially now that we have security trust funds springing up all over states."

A board member of LSSTF and CEO of Prime Atlantic, Mr Ayo Otuyalo, also expressed support, saying: "Leadership in the Police is important. We are happy that we see it in your service. We will give you all the support."
