The Lagos State Police Command has officially launched a special tactical security outfit known as the 'Command Sweepers Squad' to address escalating criminal activities and bolster security in Ikorodu and its surrounding areas.
Initiative Under CP Tijani Fatai
This initiative, spearheaded by Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, comes in response to growing concerns and complaints from residents about rising crime rates across the Ikorodu axis. The Command stated that the Squad is a temporary intervention security outfit specifically designed to curb criminality, restore public confidence, and improve rapid response operations in the affected regions.
Composition of the Squad
The security outfit comprises operatives from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF of the Lagos State Police Command. Personnel from other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) are also part of the operation.
Strategic Deployment
To ensure effective coordination and swift deployment, the Squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede, providing easy access to all parts of Ikorodu and neighbouring communities for crime prevention and emergency response. The Command disclosed that the Squad has been equipped with operational assets, including patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
Operations Underway
Operatives have already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the area to conduct intelligence-driven raids, stop-and-search operations, confidence-building patrols, and other tactical security measures aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the Squad's operations would be carried out professionally and in strict adherence to the rule of law. He urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information.
Residents can reach the Command through the following emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
