The Lagos State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and exercise caution regarding a viral video that allegedly shows the arrest of Fulani men in possession of arms and ammunition in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The command clarified that the incident actually took place three years ago and does not represent the current security situation in Ikorodu or any other part of Lagos State.
Outdated Video Misleading
According to the command, the recirculation of this outdated video is misleading and has the potential to cause unnecessary panic, fear, and apprehension among residents. The police urged members of the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information that could undermine public confidence and peace.
Warning to Social Media Users
The command also issued a warning to social media users and content creators against disseminating false, unverified, and alarmist stories that could lead to public disorder. It stated that individuals found deliberately spreading misinformation or fake news would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with existing laws.
Enhanced Security Measures
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered sustained and enhanced deployment of police personnel and operational assets to identified black spots, strategic locations, and all entry and exit points across the state. The command said these proactive security measures are being carried out in close collaboration with other security and safety agencies to ensure the continued safety and security of residents and visitors in Lagos State.
Residents were encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee the protection of lives and property.
Call for Public Cooperation
Fatai also encouraged members of the public to partner with the police and other security agencies by remaining vigilant and providing prompt, credible, and actionable information on suspicious persons, movements, or activities within their communities. According to him, timely information from the public remains invaluable in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
