Nigerian Father of Three Found Dead in UK Apartment, Family Appeals for Assistance
Tragedy has once again struck the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom with the death of a Nigerian father of three, identified as Herbert, who was found deceased in his apartment in Thornaby. This incident occurs barely a week after reports of another Nigerian mother of three passing away in the UK, heightening concerns within the diaspora about the well-being of its members abroad.
Details of the Heartbreaking Incident
Herbert was reportedly discovered lifeless in his home after he passed away in his sleep last week. He leaves behind his wife and three young children, the youngest of whom is just eight years old. Family members have since issued an urgent appeal for financial support to cover funeral expenses and the costs associated with repatriating his remains to Nigeria for burial.
The details of this sad event were shared in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, by a user identified as The Stress Manager, who described the situation as both shocking and heartbreaking. According to the post, Herbert had been grappling with significant emotional and financial strain following the recent death of his father in Nigeria, which happened just days before his own untimely passing.
Emotional and Financial Struggles
The Stress Manager elaborated, stating, Herbert, a calm and devoted Nigerian husband and father of three young children, passed away suddenly in his sleep in Thornaby. The post continued, Only a few days before his death, he was already dealing with the pain of losing his father in Nigeria. He could not travel for the burial, but he gave everything he had financially to ensure his father had a dignified farewell. That alone drained him mentally and financially.
In a tragic twist, Herbert passed away on the very day his father was laid to rest, compounding the family's grief. The situation became even more distressing as Herbert's children were the ones who discovered his lifeless body in the apartment while their mother was away at the time.
The Stress Manager added, To make it even more heartbreaking, his children were the ones who found him that morning because his wife was away at the time. No child should ever experience that. Now his wife is left alone to care for three young children while also facing the heavy financial burden of funeral and repatriation costs.
Community Response and Fundraising Efforts
Benjamin Kuti, a former president of Nigerians in the UK, confirmed the incident in a post on his X account on Friday. He urged members of the Nigerian community in the UK to rally around the bereaved family during this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and support.
In response to the family's plight, a fundraising campaign has been launched to assist with the financial challenges. Appeals have been directed at Nigerians in the diaspora and the general public, seeking donations to help cover the expenses. As of the latest reports, £2,633 has been raised out of a £7,000 target, indicating ongoing efforts to reach the necessary funds.
This incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by some members of the Nigerian diaspora abroad, particularly in times of personal crisis. It highlights the critical role of community networks in providing emotional and financial support to those in need, as families navigate the complexities of loss and logistical challenges across borders.
