A Nigerian man has been identified as one of three victims who tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash in the United Kingdom. David Oyedeji Adediwura died following a collision involving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a grey BMW 840i on Cory Wright Way in Wheathampstead at 9:38 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Details of the Fatal Crash
Hertfordshire Police confirmed that three men traveling in the Astra, aged in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW, a man in his 30s, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
GoFundMe Campaign Launched
A GoFundMe page has been created by Iretiayo Oyewole, a former colleague of Adediwura from Yodel and DHL. The fundraising target is set at £10,000, which will provide support to the victim's wife and three children during what is described as an extremely difficult period. Oyewole described Adediwura's death as sudden and devastating, leaving family, friends, and colleagues struggling to come to terms with the loss.
“David’s death was sudden, heartbreaking, and completely unexpected. News of the tragedy has left his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him struggling to come to terms with an unimaginable loss,” the appeal read. Oyewole remembered Adediwura as a dedicated worker and compassionate colleague whose generosity and willingness to support others earned him the admiration of those around him.
Tribute from the Widow
Adediwura’s widow, Modinat Adebayo, paid an emotional tribute to her husband, describing his death as the darkest day of her life. She said the couple relocated from Nigeria to the UK with hopes of building a better future for their family, but those dreams were cut short by the fatal accident. “The 22nd of July, 2026, became the darkest day of my life. You left home in search of a better future for our family, never knowing it would be your final journey. A tragic gasoline motor fire accident took you away from us, and our lives changed forever,” she wrote.
Adebayo described her husband as her best friend, confidant, prayer partner, and greatest supporter, saying he worked tirelessly to provide a better life for their family. She recalled that their final conversation on the night before his death will remain with her forever, lamenting that he left without saying goodbye. “The last conversation we had on Wednesday night will forever remain in my heart. I never imagined those would be the last words I would ever hear from you. You left without saying goodbye. Your absence has left a pain that words cannot describe,” she added.
Community Support
The fundraiser aims to cover funeral and burial expenses, transportation, immediate financial support for the family, and other associated costs. Oyewole appealed to the public for donations or by sharing the campaign, urging well-wishers to keep the deceased’s family in their prayers. The appeal stated that all donations will be used for the described purposes and appropriate updates will be provided to donors. The tragic incident has shaken the local community, highlighting the sudden loss of a man remembered for his warmth, kindness, and dedication.
