In a strategic move to enhance security during the festive period, the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has officially launched a newly revamped and fully equipped Female Squad.
Strategic Deployment for Heightened Security
The launch, which took place on 8 December 2025, is a key part of operational activities initiated by the State Commandant, Chinedu Igbo. Commandant Igbo created this squad as the first of three new teams, responding to the traditional increase in criminal activity during this season. The primary focus is to reinforce the corps' core mandates: safe-school protection, defence of critical infrastructure, and general public safety.
Immediate Patrols and School Visits
Under the leadership of ACC Ijoma Sam, who heads the Safe School Unit, the Female Squad immediately commenced operations. Their first assignment involved a comprehensive patrol across the state capital, Asaba.
The squad's initial action was to address traffic chaos at Koka Park, where they enforced regulations and dispersed clusters of commercial vehicles blocking the highway. Following this, the team conducted visits to several schools, including:
- Zappa Secondary School
- Niger Mixed Secondary School
- Azagba Secondary School
School administrators warmly welcomed the security personnel and explicitly requested more frequent patrols. They emphasized that a routine security presence would allow teachers and students to concentrate on education without fear of intrusion, attack, or disruption.
Commitment to Rapid Response and Safety
ACC Sam assured the school officials of the command's dedication to rapid response and sustained visibility around learning centres. This directive aligns with the broader vision of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Prof Ahmed Audi.
Commandant Chinedu Igbo stated that these new measures are in direct alignment with the Presidency's Safe School mandate. He promised that the state would experience "rigorous and safety-driven patrols" until a fully "conducive learning environment" is secured for all. The command's spokesperson, Anthony Uchenna, confirmed the squad's operational status and its role in the state's layered security strategy.
